Biography

Heike Be (Heike-Gisela Bollhorst) has worked in the field of education all her adult life, beginning with her 15 years of teaching English and Physical Education at the Elementary and High School levels in Germany (1973-88).
In 1978 she embarked on her healing journey through body-related therapies including bioenergetics and gestalt, and the creative arts. Her training includes a wide range of different dance and movement styles, including African, ballet, tap, tango, jazz, Tai-chi, and Continuum, as well as a two year study in dance therapy in Germany. Since 1980, she has studied drumming with various drum masters (mainly African), and has performed with several independent theater troupes in Germany and California. From 1988 to 1993, Heike lived, studied and taught at Esalen Institute, in Big Sur, California, receiving her certification as a Massage Therapist in 1987. During that time she co-founded the Creative Arts Center at Esalen and was trained as a Biodramatist.
Heike sees her work as a tantric healing path towards authenticity, wholeness and community. She has been focusing on connecting creativity and spirituality, opening doors and breaking ground in creative playful healing in private practice in Germany, in the San Francisco Bay Area and in Pacific Grove, California.
Since 1999, she has also extended her extensive and playful educational experiences to infants and toddlers as a childcare provider, working part time as a nanny and pre-school assistant in various pre-schools (I.e. Gazebo School at Esalen Institute in 2004) alongside her body-art healing practice. To complete the experience of the life circle she has worked as a care-provider and companion for the elderly on the Monterey Peninsula since June 2006.

Heike has started a free-style Dance Jam in Pacific Grove in co-creation with Donna Kaufman in February of 2003 as a weekly spiritual practice and community event. She has been teaching ongoing movement classes at Esalen Institute since July 2004.and classes at various locations on the Monterey Peninsula (i.e. Pacific Coast Church).
